Knoebel Amusement Resort – Impulse

Jun 25, 2018

The owner’s of the amusement park came to KPI to assist with the installation of the new Impulse Tower Speed Coaster. The specialized high speed ride includes a 90-degree fall and 4-upside/down twists. It was to be placed in an area occupied by a Bumper Boat ride.  KPI prepared detailed survey site drawings and sited and staked out the location of coaster which included the location of all of the concrete support piers. The German steel coaster design was predicated on the exact placement of anchor bolts which were all field verified for horizontal and vertical tolerances per the manufacturer’s specifications.  In order to locate the coaster at this strategic location it was necessary to re-route existing and sewer, water and other utilities. One of the parks primary drainage structure’s needed re-routed in order for the preferred site to work. It required a design that would ultimately go against surface grade as it flowed around the site and in between concrete pier structures, the park’s main access road and large scale fiber optic lines serving a nearby satellite communication facility. The project was on a fast track to be open in April which required special coordination with the owners and contractors over winter months in which the schedule was directly related to receipt of shipments from Europe. Numerous approvals were sought and received with the assistance of KPI. The award-winning amusement park accomplished yet another successful thrill ride project as the coaster opened on-time and this new coaster has already made its mark with thrill enthusiasts.  KPI was honored to be recognized as a key project partner at the grand opening.
